Design and Technology Day Posted: 11/10/24

Fun was had by all!

Reception

In Reception this term the children's topic was All About Me, so for our Design and Technology Day the children drew their family portrait and then made a frame from wooden sticks to go around their portrait.

Year 1

Year 1 had a fun filled time immersing themselves in our Design and Technology Day.  It was lovely to see the children working so well together to construct their castles and problem solving along the way to ensure that all the features of their castle were added.

Year 2

Year 2 DT Day the children had fun building stable structures using recyclable materials. They learnt how to make strong bases, add levels and use ramps to make their designs more interesting.

Year 3

Our theme for DT Day was packaging. Year 3 were given the task of designing and making jewellery packaging for Stone Age people to put their jewellery in and keep it safe.

Year 4

In Year 4 we had an incredible DT Day, we learnt what an eco-system is and we were even able to compare them to a biome. Then, with this knowledge, we created our own eco systems using soil, seeds and plastic water bottles. We were very excited to see their progress over the next two weeks!

Year 5

Year 5 children engaged in an exciting project centred around the creation of their own Fair Trade chocolate box wrapping. We discussed Fair Trade, highlighting its commitment to fair wages and ethical practices which support farmers in developing countries. We then explored various designs for their chocolate bar, showcasing their creativity through sketches and vibrant colours.

Year 6

Year 6 had an incredible Design and Technology Day, diving into the world of baking! They began by exploring key technical knowledge, learning the essential skills behind the baking process, then created their very own gingerbread houses. It was a fun, hands on experience that combined creativity, teamwork and practical skills, leaving them with both new knowledge and delicious results!
