Theology Trip to Worcester College, Univesity of Oxford Posted: 20/06/25
This term, a group of our Religious Studies students had the remarkable opportunity to spend the day at Worcester College, Oxford University, immersing themselves in the world of undergraduate theology. The trip offered students a first-hand experience of university life and an inspiring glimpse into the academic rigour and vibrant community at one of the world’s leading institutions.
Zara T, 12 Holborn described the day as “extremely insightful and captivating.” She was particularly inspired by the opportunity to attend a lecture delivered by a senior theology professor, which she said, “elevated not only my knowledge but also my interest.” She found the entire experience to be enriching, commenting on how fascinating it was to explore the college and engage with current students, gaining a clearer sense of what studying theology at Oxford entails.
Andrea P, 10 Ludgate was equally enthusiastic, remarking on the beauty of the college grounds, with “summer flowers in full bloom” creating a picturesque atmosphere. She noted how the lecture made theological ideas relatable through comparisons to modern films and books, such as the incarnation of Christ being likened to themes in the Barbie Movie. Andrea also appreciated the supportive student community at Worcester, where older students act as college parents to new arrivals, offering both academic and personal support.
Alice C, 12 Walbrook reflected on how the trip helped her gain a deeper understanding of theology as a subject, particularly through a lecture on the origins of religion. Initially unsure about her university path, she now feels more confident in exploring theology and philosophy. Encouragingly, she noted that 83% of Worcester students come from state schools, which challenged the assumption that Oxford is only accessible to a select few. “This visit enabled me to understand that the chances are a lot higher than you think,” she shared.
This visit to Oxford University not only provided valuable academic insight but also served as a powerful reminder that ambition, curiosity and determination can open doors to the most prestigious of places. We are incredibly proud of our students for embracing the experience with such enthusiasm and reflection.
