Sports Tour - Spain Posted: 6/06/25

On Sunday 25 May, 59 students and seven members of staff departed for the Year 8 and Year 10 Sports Tour to Spain.  Upon arrival in Lloret de Mar that afternoon, students had the opportunity to explore the local area and view the sports facilities, followed by a well-earned rest in preparation for the busy schedule ahead.

On Monday and Tuesday, both the football and netball teams took part in professional coaching sessions delivered by Norwich City FC and England Netball coaches respectively.  These sessions were followed by competitive tournaments in the afternoons, offering students the chance to apply what they had learnt.  Many of the football teams progressed to Pool A, with the Year 10 team competing in Pool B.

On day two, all teams faced strong opposition.  The Year 10 boys’ team performed admirably, finishing in a respectable 4th place out of 20 teams.  The Year 8 boys’ team also impressed, losing only two games across both days and narrowly missing out on the title, finishing in 2nd place.  The Year 8 girls’ football team finished a respectful 3rd place and the Year 10 girls' team just missed out on the title and secured 2nd place, showing determination and strong teamwork throughout.

The Year 8 netball team showed great resilience and made significant progress on day two finishing in 3rd place. Watching students and staff cheer on other teams and celebrate their successes together was a memorable highlight of the trip, reflecting the strong community spirit within our Academy.  Coaches praised the students for their exemplary sportsmanship, which was consistently demonstrated across all events.  On Tuesday evening, we held a presentation ceremony where teams were awarded medals and individual honours were presented by the team manager, fittingly held on the beach.

Wednesday was spent at Water World waterpark, giving students a chance to relax, enjoy the attractions and unwind after two intense days of competition.  Before returning home on Thursday afternoon, the group visited Barcelona, where they had the opportunity to experience the local culture and explore some of the city’s renowned sights.  It was incredibly rewarding to see our students rise to the challenge of competing abroad. They demonstrated an outstanding team ethos and their success was a testament to their hard work, commitment and resilience.

While I am extremely proud of their sporting achievements, it was equally encouraging to witness their enjoyment and continued development throughout the tour. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the staff who made this trip possible through their support and dedication. I hope the success of this year’s Sports Tour will inspire even more students to embrace the opportunities available to them in the future.
