Stem Week Posted: 16/05/25

Year 2 students became data scientists, training AI to distinguish between fish and plastic

STEM Week was, as always, a fantastic and inspiring time!

Each year group took part in an exciting robotics coding workshop, which included building and coding Lego windmills, moving robots and even drones.

We were honored to welcome some incredible guest speakers.  A robotics engineer offered fascinating insights into the future of robotics, while a Secondary Maths Teacher highlighted the wide range of career paths available through studying maths, especially relevant for our curious Year 5 and 6 students.

Throughout the week, each year group explored a STEM careers through hands on, real world activities.

For example:

  • Year 2 students became data scientists, training AI to distinguish between fish and plastic, an engaging and meaningful activity focused on how AI can help solve environmental challenges.
  • Year 6 students stepped into the role of System Design Engineers, developing their own app ideas to address real world problems. Their creative solutions included apps for transforming leftover food into recipes and a delivery service to help distribute excess food to those in need. Brilliant ideas aimed at tackling food waste and hunger in our community.

STEM Week offered an incredible opportunity for students to explore the exciting careers in STEM. It was a week full of learning, innovation and inspiration, and we cannot wait to see where our students’ passions and ideas will take them next!
