The first half of the evening featured our much anticipated Young Musician Competition

On Tuesday 1 July, the Main Hall at Wren Academy was filled with music, energy and applause as students took to the stage for this year’s Summer Showcase. The evening was a celebration of musical talent, creative dedication and the flourishing extra- curricular life at the Academy.

The first half of the evening featured our much anticipated Young Musician Competition, with junior and senior students performing a wide range of impressive repertoire. The Junior category saw a beautifully expressive performance of Chopin’s 'Nocturne Op. 48 No. 1' by Sebastian T, 9 Piccadilly (piano), who was deservedly awarded the title of Junior Young Musician 2025. Other highlights included Eunice W, 8 Ludgate elegant 'Por Una Cabeza' by Gardel, and Aizack S, 7 Piccadilly heartfelt rendition of 'In the Stars' by Benson Boone, which brought a contemporary touch to the programme.

In the Senior category, the standard remained exceptionally high. Dylan O, 10 Ludgate (drum kit), performing 'Missing Word' by Jimmy Eat World with conviction and style, was named Senior Young Musician 2025. Notable performances also came from Valerie W, 10 Bow with Finzi’s 'Prelude' from 'Five Bagatelles', and Mourielle W, 10 Bow, who tackled the first movement of Mozart’s 'Sonata in A minor' with maturity and poise.

The second half of the evening showcased the breadth of Wren Academy’s enrichment and extra-curricular programme, with performances from ensembles, choirs, dancers and soloists. The Staff Choir gave a heartfelt rendition of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', while the Wind Band brought an infectious energy with 'September' by Earth, Wind & Fire.

The Year 10 Band offered a reflective moment with their take on 'The Last Man on Earth' by Wolf Alice, while the Dance Enrichment performed with precision and flair to 'Disturbia and Wrecking Ball'. The String Quartet’s version of 'Hedwig’s Theme' was a particular highlight for film music fans and the combined choirs closed the evening on a joyful note with 'Everybody Rejoice' by Luther Vandross.

Thank you to all staff, students, and families who supported the evening. The Summer Showcase is a reminder of the vibrant community at Wren and the talent that continues to grow within it.
