Ancient Greek Day Posted: 30/01/26
Year 4 had a truly memorable experience this week as they stepped back in time for our much‑anticipated Ancient Greek Day. The children arrived in a wonderful array of costumes, transforming themselves into Greek gods, goddesses, warriors, philosophers and mythical creatures. Their creativity and enthusiasm helped set the tone for a fun filled day of historical discovery.
Throughout the day, pupils took part in a series of hands on workshops designed to bring Ancient Greek life and culture vividly to life. They began by exploring Greek myths, retelling famous stories and learning about the powerful gods and heroic characters that shaped Ancient Greek beliefs. The children particularly enjoyed acting out scenes and discussing the morals behind these legendary tales.
In another workshop, pupils learned to write using the Greek alphabet, practising letter shapes and discovering the origins of words we still use today. Many were amazed to see how familiar modern letters evolved from these ancient symbols.
Year 4 also took part in activities inspired by the Olympic Games, competing in team challenges that echoed the events held thousands of years ago in Olympia. With plenty of laughter and friendly competition, they learned about the importance of athleticism, honour and celebration in Ancient Greek society.
The children delved further into Greek culture by exploring everyday customs such as weddings, food, clothing and hobbies. Through role‑play and discussion, they gained insight into family life, traditions and the values that shaped one of the world’s most influential civilisations.
The day was a fantastic opportunity for Year 4 to immerse themselves in their history topic, deepening their understanding in a lively and memorable way. Staff were incredibly impressed by the children’s engagement, curiosity and imaginative costumes.
A big thank you to everyone involved in making Ancient Greek Day such a success.
