Safer Internet Day Posted: 11/02/26
This week, the whole school came together to celebrate Safer Internet Day, an important annual event that encourages children to use technology safely, responsibly and respectfully. This year’s theme - Exploring the Safe and Responsible Uses of AI - gave pupils the opportunity to learn about the rapidly developing world of artificial intelligence and how it shapes the digital tools they use every day.
Key Stage 1: Learning About Voice Assistants
Our younger pupils in Key Stage 1 focused on the familiar world of voice assistants, such as Alexa and Siri. Through stories, discussions and roleplay, children explored how these technologies work, when they can be helpful and how to use them safely. They learned the importance of asking a trusted adult for help, thinking carefully about the questions they ask and knowing that not everything a device says will always be accurate. The children enjoyed practising safe commands and talking about the difference between real people and digital voices.
Key Stage 2: Understanding a Range of AI Technologies
In Key Stage 2, pupils took a deeper dive into the wider world of AI, including image generators, recommendation systems and chatbots. They discussed how AI can support learning and creativity, while also considering potential risks such as misinformation, privacy and fairness. Through debates, group challenges and digital activities, KS2 pupils explored how to think critically about the information AI provides and how to make responsible choices online. The children showed great curiosity and asked thoughtful questions about the future of technology.
A School Wide Commitment to Digital Safety
Throughout the day, classes across the school took part in activities that encouraged safe online behaviour, respectful communication and responsible use of AI tools. Pupils shared their ideas about how technology can benefit our lives and they created posters, pledges and scenarios showing how to stay safe in an increasingly digital world.
We are proud of how engaged and reflective the children were and we will continue to embed digital safety in our curriculum throughout the year. Thank you to staff, parents and carers for supporting this important message at home and in school.
