Wren's Carol Service Posted: 19/12/25

Wren Academy’s annual Carol Service took place on Monday 15 December at Christ Church, North Finchley, bringing together students, staff, families and friends for an evening of music, readings and reflection.  The church was filled to capacity and the congregation participated warmly in the traditional carols throughout the service.

The evening opened with a confident orchestral performance of 'In Dulci Jubilo', setting a reflective tone.  Readings from the opening chapter of John’s Gospel and later from Luke’s account of the Nativity provided a clear narrative framework for the service.

Musical contributions were a particular strength.  The congregation joined in enthusiastically with 'Once in Royal David’s City' and 'Hark! The Herald Angels Sing', while the Gospel Choir offered a contrasting contemporary sound, including a powerful performance of 'O Come all ye Faithful'.  The Year 7 Choir performed 'Lullaby of the Angels' with poise and the Staff and Sixth Form Choir came together for 'Christmas Canon of Peace', highlighting the sense of community across the Academy.

Reverend Dave Walker addressed the congregation with a thoughtful talk, drawing together the themes of the readings and music, before student led prayers and a closing blessing.  The service concluded with a final item from the Gospel Choir, bringing the evening to a confident and uplifting close.

Our Carol Service was an opportunity to showcase the breadth of musical talent at Wren Academy, whilst providing a meaningful opportunity for the community to gather and reflect at the end of a busy term.
