A Level Maths Trip Posted: 30/01/26

Overall, the trip addressed aspects of university applications that students often find challenging and for some, even influenced their future choices.

On Tuesday 27 January, a group of Year 12 Mathematics students enjoyed an inspiring visit to the University of Oxford as part of the Christ Church Outreach Programme.  This programme, exclusively linked to schools in Barnet, offers students a valuable insight into university life and the opportunities available at one of the world’s most prestigious institutions.

The day was packed with engaging activities, which began with an informative introduction to the University of Oxford and Christ Church College.  Students then took part in a lively Q&A session with current undergraduates, who spoke openly about their academic experiences, admissions journeys and life beyond lectures.  This helped to demystify the application process and address many common concerns about university life.

A highlight of the visit was a thought provoking Mathematics workshop led by Dr James Munro, which challenged students to think creatively and showcased the depth and excitement of studying Mathematics at a higher level.  The group was also treated to lunch in Christ Church’s magnificent Dining Hall, offering a true taste of college tradition.

Later, students explored the college grounds on a guided tour led by a current student, learning more about the history of Christ Church as well as the wider Oxford community.

Overall, the trip addressed aspects of university applications that students often find challenging and for some, even influenced their future choices. Feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the visit as reassuring, inspiring and eye-opening.
