A Level Science - Natural History Museum Trip Posted: 6/02/26

Searching for specific elements in various forms of rock, to looking at skulls that display evolution was very interesting.

NHM1On Wednesday 4 February, 37 Year 13 A Level Chemistry and Biology students visited the Natural History Museum.

To support their learning, students completed a booklet that reinforced their A Level knowledge, using information gathered from various exhibits throughout the Museum.  Their visit began with a series of sessions exploring the evolution of species, the minerals and gems containing transition metals and the ways in which Chemistry shapes our landscape.  After lunch, students carried out an independent exploration of the museum, giving them additional time to visit areas that further developed their A Level Chemistry or Biology understanding.

Overall, it was an enjoyable trip and the students got the chance to see in action some of the concepts they have studied on their A Level courses.

Some of our student views of the day are below:

I had so much fun looking at the different displays. Searching for specific elements in various forms of rock, to looking at skulls that display evolution was very interesting. The museum as a whole, is very fascinating to explore.  Deepika B - 13 Bow

Inspiring. Some really cool rocks and gemstone made from transition metals. I learnt extra interesting knowledge about dinosaurs and marine mammals.  Cortina T - 13 Ludgate
